Latest Bureau News and Events

Throughout February Citizens Advice are trying to find out how people access cash from bank, building society and post office card accounts, and how they would be affected if their bank stopped them from using other cash machines.

We’ve produced a short client survey to help us gather information about this. It should not take long to complete and what we learn from it will help us work to ensure vulnerable consumers have easy access to their cash.

The survey is anonymous. But if you want to tell us more about how you access cash, the accounts you use or the problems you have had had you can. All you need to do is tick a box and tell us how we can contact you.

The survey will only take a couple of minutes to complete:

About the Service

Cheshire East Citizens Advice Bureau is a member of Citizens Advice An external link opening in a new window., which provides the extensive information system we use to advise clients and sets standards for advice, training, equal opportunities and accessibility in the bureau.

The Citizens Advice service offers practical, up-to-date information and advice on a wide range of topics, including; debt, benefits, housing, legal, discrimination, employment, immigration, consumer and other problems.

Our advice is available to everyone regardless of race, gender, sexuality, age, nationality, disability or religion.

As well as general advice, we offer specialist advice, including representation, on debt, and benefits.

We have a Mental Health Advocacy Service An external link opening in a new window. for people who need an independent advocate to help them express their needs to a wide range of professionals, an adviser specially funded to help Wulvern Housing Tenants and a Welfare Benefits Take Up worker for people over 60.

The Rural Advice Service An external link opening in a new window., which received funding from the Big Lottery Fund in 2006, is an extremely well-established and well respected service. The service has been operating for around 20 years and visits a number of villages around Crewe and Nantwich.  "The Van" as it is commonly known is a specially adapted vehicle which serves as a mobile office complete with interview room.  We know from rural client feedback that there is no other service which provides an holistic problem solving service and many say that they would not have pursued their rights, including claiming welfare benefits, without the vans help.

Campaigning for change - Social Policy

We also speak up for change in social policies; from our clients' experiences we can see where services and policies are failing.  We call this work "Campaigning for Change".

Volunteering

Cheshire East CAB is a volunteer led organization – all of our generalist advisers are volunteers, they are the backbone of our organization.

People from all backgrounds and ages come and join the CAB to help their local community.  They come here for many different reasons, but each and every one of them will tell you that they find it stimulating, fascinating and very enjoyable.

Volunteering with the CAB is not a lifetime commitment, though you may find that volunteering with the CAB changes your life in unexpected ways.  Many of the paid staff here began their life as a volunteer, and some of our current volunteers are using the experience they gain here as a stepping stone to enhance their career.

Volunteers at CAB give their time freely to act as advisers, administration assistants, board members, marketing assistants, IT support assistants or as receptionists.

No previous experience is needed as all training is provided by members of our training team.

Travel expenses are paid to ensure that no one is out of pocket by volunteering.

Contact us now – you won’t regret it!
